DUI Checkpoint Coming Up In San Carlos

San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies will be looking for drug- and alcohol-impaired motorists and valid driver licenses.

SAN CARLOS, CA — The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a Sobriety/Driver’s License Checkpoint that starts Friday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. and runs until Saturday at 2 a.m. in San Carlos.

Deputies at the operation, planned for the 1200 and 1300 blocks of San Carlos Avenue, will be checking for proper licensing and drug- or alcohol-impaired drivers, the agency said, adding that “DUI doesn’t just mean booze.”

"In recent years, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes," officials said. "If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a warning against driving or operating machinery on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI."
