Longtime San Carlos Hobby Shop Owners To Close Down Store

SAN CARLOS, CA — A mainstay Peninsula hobby shop is closing its doors at the end of the month.

J&M Hobby House in San Carlos, which has been running for nearly 60 years, is in its final days as the owners, Cliff and Pam White, have decided to retire.

According to the San Mateo Daily Journal, the Whites, at age 66, have run the store together for nearly 40 years of its existence. Cliff’s parents bought the store in 1964 and Cliff took control in 1982. They described their decision to walk away as “bittersweet.”

On Facebook, customers who have been coming to the store for years for crafts and other supplies expressed a fondness for what has become a longtime San Carlos landmark.

“The owners are awesome, kind and knowledgeable folks and I hope they have a fun filled retirement,” one comment read. “I will miss my conversations and just wandering around the small chock-full of kits shop making new discoveries each visit.”

Others lamented yet another hobby shop closing down.

“Another one bites the dust,” Joe Rocha wrote. “If you have a hobby shop near you, visit and buy to support them.”
