SamTrans Fares: What Do You Think Of Current Prices?

Officials are preparing to survey riders on the fare structure.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County Transit District officials this week said they are looking for customer input as they build a new "fare elasticity model." In the end, SamTrans hopes to "more accurately determine its fare policy."

Officials said that 1,500 riders from 11 routes will be surveyed in a new project.

"The data collected will be used in the modeling to determine how changes in fare price influence people’s use of SamTrans," transit officials said. "This will be used to craft the SamTrans Fare Policy Study Report which will recommend a fare policy that will be presented to the SamTrans Board of Directors this summer, as well as provide a more in-depth picture of the needs of riders that can be used in future efforts."
