Food Drive Nets 72 Turkey Meals for Marines, Needy

San Juan Rotary Club collects donations at four supermarkets for its annual Thanksgiving campaign.

Record donations to this year's San Juan Capistrano Rotary Club food drive will provide Thanksgiving meals to 72 families, a club spokesman said Sunday.

The drive, held Saturday at four local supermarkets, asked shoppers to buy various menu items for families in need. The gifts were then collected, boxed and shipped to an equal mix of needy families in San Juan Capistrano and families of deployed Camp Pendleton Marines from the city’s adopted First Battalion, 11th Marines unit.

Event chair Tammie Hanna said the Rotary-sponsored Interact Club at San Juan Hills High School and PAL members from Marco Forster Middle School helped with the food drive.
