Fuel Spill Closes I-5 South Through South Orange County

The roadway was closed midday Tuesday due to a spill and cleanup in lanes.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Orange County drivers were at a standstill Tuesday after a spill in the southbound lanes closed the 5 Freeway.

California Highway Patrol officers initiated a SIGALERT at approximately 12:30 p.m. for the southbound Junipero Serra Road Off-Ramp.

A big rig, believed to be the cause of the spill, has pulled over on the right-hand side of the Junipero Serra Off-Ramp after spilling fuel on the I-5 southbound for an indeterminate period of time.

Orange County Fire Authority called for a SIGalert at the southbound offramp of Junipero Serra Road while the fuel spill is being cleaned up.
