A Fun Day at a Petting Zoo

An afternoon spent petting animals and riding mini trains in Zommars at River Street Ranch

(Chris Patcher)

Petting zoos have a special place in my heart. Some of my best childhood memories are of afternoons I spent with my furry friends. My father thought it was important for us to be closer to nature. He was a man fascinated with wildlife, oceans, rivers, and plants. His love for nature brought him to Orange County.

As they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I have inherited my father’s passion for nature and want to pass it on to my children. And this brought me to Zoomars at River Street Ranch on a Sunday afternoon.
Due to the events that transpired last year, my family’s trips around the city haven’t been that frequent. I thought an adventure at our favorite petting zoo was long overdue and my children agreed.
One thing I appreciate about Zoomars is that it’s pretty affordable. My wife and I fancy our money-saving skills which are why we utilize coupon websites like ClothingRIC while buying online. Zoomars at River Street Ranch work for us as it’s a relatively inexpensive day out.

Train ride

As usual, the day began with an all too familiar train ride. There was a nice breeze that day which made the ride all the more fun for kids. The train is for 10 and under. It has bells, whistles and oddly enough, the train even makes the old ‘choo-choo’ sound. Fun fact: It is right across from a real train station.

Field of Honor

The zoo was preparing to host the Field of Honor to pay tribute to everyone who has defended our country. Zoomars often hosts such programs. On Halloween, it hosts PumpkinPalooza where the entire place is turned into a Pumpkin playground.

Goats

Of course, who can forget the goats? The majestic creatures add life to this place with their consistent screams. My little one named the first one ‘hairy’ for obvious reasons.

Llama

Once you’re done with the goats, llamas are next in line. Their astoundingly long necks are something that amazes my kids every time. I plan on showing them a giraffe or two and hopefully, rock their worlds.

Slides

Finally; the playground. It seemed my kids enjoyed the slides more than anything else in the zoo, which was kind of weird because I take them to our local park every other day. But then again, kids will be kids.
It was a wonderful day, the children had a blast and their mother and I had a swell time too.
