JSerra Women's Soccer Wins CIF Regional Over Los Alamitos

Students and families celebrated the women of JSerra Girls Soccer in their resounding defeat of the Los Alamitos Griffins to win CIF SoCal.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — The JSerra lady lions completed their undefeated streak to win over Los Alamitos Griffins to claim the CIF Southern California Division 1 Regional Championship on their home pitch of JSerra High School, March 2.

Going 23-0-3 for the season, the Lions beat the Griffins 3-1, with Los Alamitos' coach offering a tip of the cap to the winning team.

"It's always challenging to play them," Los Al coach Pat Rossi told the OC Register. "They were better tonight."

Samantha Williams broke the 0-0 tie in the 34th minute of the game off an assist by Mia Conti. At the 36th minute, the Griffins answered back with a goal by Khalia Gathright on a pass from Colby Barnett.

"When we scored first, I thought we were in a good spot," JSerra coach Greg Baker told the Register. On the quick turnaround goal, "I thought we were in trouble."

In the second half, another goal by Abby Lynch, shot above the keeper's head, sealed the beginning of the end. Leading 2-1, Samantha Williams scored on a long arcing drive.

"It was the perfect ending to the game," Williams told the Register.

This victory won JSerra's their second championship win in three years.
