Powerball Winning Numbers January 31, 2018

The last day of January was a big one for Powerball players in California. A winning ticket matching five numbers in Wednesday evening's drawing of the multi-state Powerball lottery, but missing the Powerball number, was sold just inside the California border and is worth $1,999,845.

The ticket was sold at the Primm Valley Lotto Store in the unincorporated San Bernardino County community of Nipton. A ticket with all six numbers for the Jan. 28, 2017 Mega Millions drawing was sold at the store. Its owner had the choice of receiving the $188 million jackpot in 30 installments or its $113.6 million cash value, the California Lottery announced Wednesday.

The numbers drawn Wednesday were 4, 7, 14, 46, 59 and the Powerball number was 22. The estimated jackpot was $127 million.

Two other tickets with five numbers, but missing the Powerball number, were sold, one each in Florida and Minnesota. They are each worth $1 million, the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game, announced.

California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis.

There were no tickets sold with all six numbers and the estimated jackpot for Saturday's drawing is expected to grow to $145 million.

The drawing was the seventh since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in about 293 million, according to the Powerball website. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87.

The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
