Unemployment Rate Drops In Orange County In Fall, 2020

Though unemployment dropped in October, the numbers are more than doubled from one year ago in the pre-coronavirus era.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Across California, unemployment dropped in October, according to a report from the EDD. Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 9.3% in October, down from 11.1% in September, but well above the 3.9% rate from October 2019. The comparable estimates for the nation were 6.9% in October, 7.9% in September and 3.6% in October 2019.

In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the October jobless rate was 7.5%, down from 9% in September.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 12.3% in Los Angeles County in October, down from 15.5% in September, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.

The 12.3% rate was well above the 4.3% rate from the pre-coronavirus era of October 2019.

According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 79,100 jobs between September and October to reach more than 4.2 million. The leisure and hospitality sector led the way, adding 18,700 jobs.
