Vladimir Guerrero To Be Angels' First Hall Of Famer

The Angels are getting the club's first National Baseball Hall Of Famer with Vladimir Guerrero's decision to go in as an Angel.

ANAHEIM, CA — One day after being elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Vladimir Guerrero announced Thursday he will go into the hall as an Angel, a first for the franchise.

"It's official, just made my decision. I'll have wings and a halo at the @baseballhall," Guerrero wrote on his Twitter page.

Guerrero could have gone into the hall representing the Montreal Expos, for whom he played for the first eight years of his career, before spending six years in Anaheim. The Expos are now the Washington Nationals.

Guerrero will be the first player in the Hall of Fame depicted on his plaque with an Angels hat.

"This is such a proud and special day for Vladimir Guerrero, his family, his countrymen in the Dominican Republic and of course all Angels fans," Angels owner Arte Moreno said. "His election into the Hall of Fame is so meaningful and impactful for so many. We are proud and privileged that he becomes the first player enshrined in Cooperstown wearing the Angels logo. He represented four quality organizations during his playing career and his induction is special for each."

Guerrero also spent single seasons with the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles.

Guerrero helped lead the Angels to five American League West pennants during his six years with the club, and he was named American League Most Valuable Player in 2004, his first year in Anaheim.

He had a career batting average of .318, belting 449 home runs and collecting 1,496 RBIs. He was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame last summer.
