1. Take back the night tonight: While many communities celebrate a public safety awareness program called Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, San Juan will host its gathering from 5-8 tonight at Historic Town Center Park. There will be displays of equipment from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Orange County firefighters, activities for children, entertainment and more. It promises to be an evening of fun, food and safety education.

2. This ain’t your kid's field trip: The Swallows Inn is coordinating a trip to the Del Mar Racetrack. The “limo bus” leaves at noon Wednesday. The $75 ticket gets you brunch before departure, drinks on the way and admission to Del Mar. For more information, call 949-493-3188.

3. The end is near! The end is near! Actually, it’s not, but you may want to learn how to preserve food just in case. The Ecology Center is offering a “backyard skills workshop” on ways to reduce food waste and enjoy the summer harvest all year round. The event is from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Ecology Center, 32701 Alipaz St., San Juan Capistrano. Call 949-443-4223 for more info.

4. Kick up your heels: Come and two-step under the stars Saturday at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano. The event will feature music and dancing with The Kelly Boyz. The evening will start at 5 with dance lessons. Dining, dancing and gaming kick off at 6. The party will feature a fun zone, silent auction, "casino" tables and raffle, with food and drinks from Bad to the Bone for sale. Admission and parking are free. For more information, call 949-493-1171. To view the event flyer (which includes sponsorship and vendor information), click here.

5. All that jazz: Sunday’s band at Hamilton Oaks Vineyard and Winery is Behind the Scene, a contemporary jazz group. Tickets are $10. Go here for tickets.

Correction: In an earlier version of this story, item No. 5 incorrectly said the $10 general admission ticket includes a glass of wine. It also incorrectly listed a VIP ticket program. VIP tickets were available only at the first concert in the series.
