A Can Here, A Can There Goes a Long Way Toward Helping the Needy
U.S. Postal Service holding National Stamp Out Hunger Day Saturday, May 12.
Hunger is not just a Third World problem.
Last year, 50 million Americans experienced real hunger because they didn't have enough money to buy food.
To help combat this crisis, on Saturday letter carriers across the country will collect non-perishable food and donate it to the needy.

Locally, items will be given to FISH, COTS and the Redwood Empire Food Bank, all of which feed thousands of residents each year.
Helping is easy. All you have to do is set out some canned veggies, soup, chili, pasta, peanut butter, tuna or any other non-perishable items in your mailbox to be picked up by your mail carrier. Organizers remind residents to not put out glass containers, expired or perishable food.
