After Short Standoff, Sonoma Sheriff's Detectives Arrest Man on Slew of Firearm Allegations

Sonoma County Sheriff's detectives arrested a Guerneville man on a host of gun-related charges Wednesday night after a brief standoff at his home, Sheriff's officials said.

Detectives arrested 31-year-old Tyrell Myers at around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 16000 block of Neely Rd. in Guerneville, according to Sgt. Michael Raasch. Myers was arrested for multiple arrest warrants, a parole hold warrant, and on suspicion of additional new charges stemming from him possessing weapons including a firearm, Raasch said.

The case began when detectives learned where Myers was living, knowing he was on parole for being a convicted felon in possession of an assault weapon and a felon in possession of a firearm. A warrant was issued for Myers' arrest when detectives became aware that Myers had violated the terms of his parole by being in possession of a firearm.

Myers had several local arrest warrants on suspicion of violation of his probation, drug possession and being under the influence of drugs, Raasch said.

While detectives were conducting surveillance of Myers' house, he came outside and detectives tried to arrest him, according to Raasch. Before they were able to do so, Myers reached into his waistband and immediately went back into the house, where he discarded a handgun, which the detectives surmised that he had in his waistband, Raasch said.

After a short standoff, Myers gave up and was arrested without further incident.

In addition to his outstanding warrants, Myers was arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a weapon (in this case a baton) and resisting arrest.

Myers was booked into the Sonoma County jail and he is being held without bail.
