Drivers Doing Donuts in Attempt to Break World Record

Dozens of drivers will descend on Sonoma's Infineon Raceway to take part in the attempt to break the current donut-spinning world record of 57.

 

Professional and amateur drivers will gather in Sonoma County this afternoon to attempt to break a world record for the most cars performing "donuts" simultaneously.

Dozens of drivers will descend on Sonoma's Infineon Raceway to take part in the attempt. The current world record of 57 cars spinning donuts was set in Queensland, Australia, in 2010.

in October attracted 37 drivers. Raceway spokeswoman Diana Brennan said that, as of this morning, 90 racers were registered for today's event.

Raceway officials said that at least one other smaller practice was held last fall, but that the October practice was the only chance for a larger number of drivers to practice performing the trick simultaneously.

Those participating in today's event will be admitted free of charge. Normally, drivers must pay $50 to participate in Infineon Raceway's Sonoma Drift events or $40 if they register in advance. Those events are regularly scheduled for Wednesday nights.
