Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s Trophies, crafted by Tiffany & Co., will be on display to help celebrate the World Series Champions with devoted Giants fans in Junior Giants communities throughout northern and central California, Oregon and Nevada, and help raise funds and awareness for the Junior Giants program.

The viewing of the trophies is free to the public but a voluntary contribution of $2 per person is suggested to support the local Junior Giants program. This will be the third public trophy tour held in the past five years.

“Just last month, Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Neighborhood Services was selected into the Junior Giants program. Our Junior Giants League will launch in the summer and we anticipate it will serve over 150 children who live in the area. By coming out to view the trophies, our community members are also supporting our Junior Giants League and their support is much appreciated!”

Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, which serves more than 22,000 boys and girls in 87 underserved communities throughout northern and central California and southern Oregon.

It is a free and non-competitive baseball program that has served as a model for MLB youth initiatives.

Using baseball, the Junior Giants provides opportunities for youth to link with adult mentors and to learn about the program’s Four Bases of Character Development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork. Many of its participants would not normally have the opportunity or means to play baseball. Locally, registration for the Santa Rosa Junior Giants program will begin in March.

Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming eight-week Neighborhood Services Junior Giants season. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, contact Skip Wallace at swallace@srcity.org or (707) 543-4359.
