Last Chance to Kickstart Sondra Bernstein's New Project

Bernstein is attempting to raise $3,000 by Friday for Suite-D, a soon-to-be foodie think tank in Schellville

Time is running out to kick-start Sonda Bernstein's latest project.

At the moment, the Suite-D is still in the early start-up phases: about 2000-square-feet of open warehouse space in Schellville. But Bernstein envisions the space as an all-purpose food center for the Sonoma Valley – a place for movie nights, culinary classes, wedding dinners and, yes, even ping-pong tournaments.

To raise initial funds, Bernstein and crew – a pay-what-you-can website where users back creative projects with small donations. But, to keep the funds, Kickstarter projects have to raise the full asked-for amount, which for suite-d is $30,000.

Currently, the soon-to-be restaurant space has raised $27,142 – about $3,000 short of the all clear.

Bernstein, who has been traveling in the Mediterranean, has been blogging regularly on the Kickstarter site to rally backers.

suite d will still happen whether or not we get funded, the difference will only be some of the bells and whistles will just take longer to get.

For instance ---- We will have ping pong tables but no paddles or balls, we will have a cooking demo mirror, but no stovetop, we will have audio but no stage, we will have electric, just no lighting (ha ha)...

If you want to get in on the ground floor, would-be backers have until tomorrow, Friday, May 18 at 11:53 a.m.

Depending on pledge size, backers are rewarded with thank-you gifts, from cheese tastings to canning classes to original cocktail napkin art, to a personalized wine dinner.

(Girl and the Fig's communication's director Anne Abrams points out that the gifts would make great auction items for a nonprofit...)
