Man Sentenced To Year In Jail And Probation For Repeatedly Threatening To Kill His Brother In Sonoma County

Santa Rosa, CA – Defendant Daniel Novello Irving, 68 years old of Chico, was sentenced earlier today by the Honorable Christopher Honigsberg to serve one year in county jail and three years on formal probation after pleading “no contest” in March of this year to felony charges of threatening and stalking his elderly brother over a period of nine months.

At the time the threats were made, Irving bore a grudge against his brother and other family members that escalated after their mother died in March of 2019. From July, 2019 through March, 2020 Irving made numerous and relentless threats to kill his brother. During that ninemonth period Irving sent emails, cards, and left voice messages describing in graphic detail the physical torture he wished to inflict. The victim eventually obtained a restraining order, but the threatening messages did not cease. The victim and his family lived in terror that Irving would carry out his threats.

In March, the defendant pled “no contest” to felony charges of stalking and making criminal threats. As a condition of his sentence he was ordered to comply with mental health conditions and complete anger management classes.

Irving was recently convicted in Butte County on felony charges of making threating statements to a former friend who ran the Boys and Girls Club where the defendant volunteered. In addition, he is currently facing similar charges in Sacramento County regarding threats made to another family member.
