Sheriff's Office Distributes Evacuation Tags At Drive-Thru Events

"We've learned that seconds can count during evacuations and we are excited to bring this new time-saving tool to our residents."

SONOMA, CA — With the impending arrival of fire season, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office encouraged residents of its Sonoma and Windsor — its two contract cities— as well as those who live in unincorporated areas of the county, to pick up their free evacuation tag at one of two upcoming drive-thru distribution days.

The tags are a new tool to help the sheriff's office and partner agencies more quickly ensure that neighborhoods are evacuated during a wildfire or other large-scale disaster.

"Residents tie the tag in a location that is highly visible when they evacuate," the sheriff's office said. "This saves time because first responders don’t have to tie their own ribbon on the property and they can immediately check the next home. We’ve learned that seconds can count during evacuations and we are excited to bring this new time-saving tool to our residents. Each tag comes with a bilingual instruction flier, too."
