Sonoma Sales Tax Measure Passes

Measure J, a sales tax increase passed with 66 percent of the vote

 

Measure J, a five-year temporary sales tax measure which increases the city's rate from 8% to 8.5% earned ample support Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting the measure earned 66.5 percent of the vote. It required a majority vote to pass.

The city estimates that the sales tax will raise about $1.1 million annually, which will be directed towards roads, public safety and municipal services to make up for budget gaps left in the wake of redevelopment. .
