Elite Public Schools Board of Directors extends closure prompted

Vallejo, Calif. | The ELITE Public Schools (www.elitepublicschools.org) Board of Directors has approved keeping the school closed until April 13, two weeks past the original March 30 closure date that was prompted by the need to practice social distancing to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus that has gripped the state and nation in the past few weeks.

The extended closure mean students will return after Spring Break. School officials say the date is tentative based on whether county, state or federal agencies provide updated guidance or directives in which case the Board will adjust the closure date accordingly.

ELITE Schools President/CEO says students will be able to continue their academic program and connect with teachers through distance learning and video conferencing.

“We take the schooling of our scholars seriously and have provided work packets for each of them. We are also reaching out to scholars regularly to provide the support and encouragement they need to continue to complete the work packets,” said ELITE Schools President/CEO Dr. Ramona Bishop.

Parents whose child has not received their work packet can email the school at info@elitepublicschools.org and provide their name, child’s name and grade. Teachers will be communicating regularly with scholars and will be available to answer questions from families as they work with scholars on packets. Parents are encouraged to register on class dojo to stay connected with their child’s teacher and receive a daily instructional schedule that will be available in the coming week.

The school has scheduled times for students or parents to pick up and drop off work packets and completed assignments. Completed work packets for weeks one and two, March 16-20 and March 23-27 can be dropped off and work packets for week three, March 30-April 3 can be picked up on Friday, March 27 from 12 noon to 6pm at the school, 100 Whitney Avenue in Vallejo.

School officials say drive-thru breakfast and lunch will be served to from 10-11 am behind the school from the entrance on Mini Drive. Any child age 0-18 will be served and they do not need to be enrolled at the school to participate.

The disruption in the regular school schedule has led parents to find ways to adjust to the changes by sending videos of their children learning at home. The school will announce a video competition coming soon. Videos can be emailed to the school at info@elitepublicschools.org.

“We’re in the midst of a situation that no one has experienced,” said Bishop. “This is a time for us all to come together, stay positive and support one another so that we can get through this extremely challenging time for our community.”
