It's the most wonderful time of the year, but between gift buying and wrapping, decorations and holiday meals, it's going to be an expensive season. But how much is too much when it comes to holiday spending?
To help you avoid that post-holiday financial regret, the people over at the personal finance website WalletHub calculated a "maximum holiday budget" for the average resident in each of 570 U.S. cities as "the average holiday spending in 2017 [is] expected to reach more than $967, an increase of 3.4 percent since 2016 and more than 20 percent over the past two years," the company said.
Holiday budgets vary from state to state and city to city. According to the newly released 2017 Holiday Budgets By City study, Naperville, Illinois residents can afford the highest amount in holiday spending — coming in at an average budget of $2,381 per person.
