Fairfield Suisun Rotary Club Awards Assist-a-Grad Scholarships
Teens receive a financial boost for further schooling
The Fairfield Suisun Rotary Club on Monday announced its selections for their 2020 Assist-A-Grad scholarships.
Six students received the awards: Sidney Binns (Vanden High School), Eric Cortez (Rodriguez High School), Adamari Delgado Reynaga (Armijo High School), Yenessa Huckom (Fairfield High School), Sierra Lewis (Fairfield High School) and Aurora Markham (Armijo High School).
The students were chosen based upon their written applications and oral interviews with members from the Rotary Club.

“Our Club has always believed in helping our community’s youth. We believe that they should dream big and continue to even in the middle of a pandemic,” said President Kelly Rhoads Poston.

- Sidney Binns, a graduate of Vanden High School. She plans to major in Biology with the goal of becoming a doctor and has applied to Berkeley, UCLA, Cal Poly SLO, and UC Santa Barbara. She was Vanden's Interact Club Founder and President, Junior Class President, Senior Class President and enjoys playing soccer.
- Eric Cortez, a graduate of Rodriquez High School. He plans to major in Political Science has applied to Stanford, Princeton, Yale and Harvard. He has served as FSUSD Governing Board Student Board member and is the Chairman of Fairfield Youth Commission. He also interned for Assembly Member Tim Grayson.
- Adamari Delgado Reynaga a graduate of Armijo High School. She plans to major in Biology to become a professional obstetrician and has applied to UC Davis, Sacramento State, Sonoma State and San Francisco State. She was a volunteer at NorthBay Healthcare and worked on her high school newspaper.
- Yenessa Hukom a graduate of Fairfield High School. She plans to become a Registered Nurse and has applied to the University of Nevada, Grand Canyon University, CSU Chico and CSU San Marcos. She is a recipient of the Fairfield Suisun Rotary Good Character Award, worked on the Fairfield High School Special Olympics and helped raise money for the school’s athletics programs.
- Sierra Lewis, a graduate of Fairfield High School. She plans a career as a Registered Nurse and has been accepted at Solano Community College. She has taken advanced classes at school while working at Paradise Valley Estates and taking care of her special needs brother.
- Aurora Markham, a graduate of Armijo High School. She plans to major in Communications and has been accepted at Solano Community College. She was Senior Class Vice President, part of Armijo’s Leadership Program and ran track and field and cross country.
