Live Grenade Found Behind Fairfield Business: Police
The business was evacuated and police instructed community members to avoid the area.
FAIRFIELD, CA — A live hand grenade was found Thursday behind a Fairfield business and police are investigating how it ended up there. Police advised the public at 9:53 a.m. that a grenade had been found in the 600 block of Beck Avenue, near Cadenasso Drive.
The business and surrounding area were evacuated and community members were instructed to avoid the area.
In an update at 10:35 a.m., Fairfield police Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen said the Travis Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responded and safely removed the device.

"The grenade did appear to be an actual live device," Jacobsen said. "Officers will investigate the incident and attempt to determine how the grenade ended up behind the business. There is no specific information or leads available at this time."
The area has been deemed safe again and "everyone can resume normal business," the lieutenant said.
