SCOE Poster Contest Winners Think School Is Cool

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — The Solano County Office of Education announced the winners this week of its 2017 Attendance Awareness Poster Contest. The countywide contest was held in September, Attendance Awareness Month.

"This year’s Attendance Awareness Contest was a huge success with over 200 participants using their artistic talents to spread the word about the critical role good school attendance has on student achievement," said Lisette Estrella Henderson, Solano County Superintendent of Schools.

The winning students, listed below, will be recognized at their respective school district’s upcoming board meeting, according to SCOE.

Kindergarten – fourth grade

• First place – Amara Burris, third grade, Cordelia Hills Elementary School, FSUSD
• Second place – Keira Call, second grade, Robert Semple Elementary School, Benicia Unified School District (BUSD)
• Third place – Ziya Leon, 3rd grade, Cordelia Hills Elementary School, FSUSD

Fifth grade - eighth grade

• First place – Kailey Pickering, eighth grade, Golden West Middle School, Travis Unified School District (TUSD)
• Second place – Isabella Rose, eighth grade, Golden West Middle School, TUSD
• Third place - Ian Smith, eighth grade, Golden West Middle School, TUSD

Ninth grade – 12th grade

• First place – Brandisha Wynne, Transition Program, SCOE
• Second place – Zachary Hermon & David Archuleta, Transition Program, SCOE
• Third place – Jose Rios, Transition Program, SCOE

Henderson thanked SCOE's community partners for their continued support in "making the Attendance Awareness Contest a huge success."

Community sponsors this year were: Fairfield and Suisun Transit (F.A.S.T), Stars Recreation Center, Texas Roadhouse, Pier 39, Aquarium of the Bay, Jump Highway, Scandia Family Fun Center, Rockin Jump, Oakland Zoo and Driven Raceway.
