Solano Community College To Participate In “Giving Tuesday”
All proceeds from Giving Tuesday will go to the SCCEF endowment fund for scholarships.

From SCCEF: The Solano Community College Educational Foundation (SCCEF) is participating in Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
SCCEF is setting up a permanent scholarship endowment fund and is asking for community support on Giving Tuesday, November 28th. This past year, nearly $25,000 has been donated to begin the endowment fund. The goal is to double this amount by the end of this year and continue to grow the endowment each year so a permanent source of funding is provided to assist students.
“Our passion is helping students achieve their college dreams and we focus on supporting our students most in need,” said Curt Johnston, executive director of the SCCEF. “Seven out of every ten Solano Community College students receive some form of financial aid but oftentimes it's not enough to pay for the things many of us take for granted such as transportation, personal computers, and even printing college assignments. Despite these obstacles, these students are taking the initiative and working hard to improve their future.”
Funding a scholarship is a meaningful way to help these students while making a lasting impact in their lives. Donations in any amount are welcome, because small scholarships make a huge difference to students struggling financially. The support helps students stay enrolled, which is critical because the likelihood of unemployment increases significantly without a college degree or certificate. In fact, according to the California Community Colleges’ Chancellor’s Office, students who earn a degree or certificate from a California community college nearly double their earnings within three years.

For those considering larger investments, they have the option of creating a new scholarship named after an individual, a company, or a person they’d like to honor. The amount to establish a scholarship varies from just $250 for a one-time scholarship to $10,000 for a named endowed scholarship. Donors have the option of creating scholarships with customized student selection criteria. For example, a donor may select an area of study/major, eligibility criteria such as GPA or minimum units per semester, and financial need and/or academic success.
