VACAVILLE - Vacaville police arrested a juvenile on suspicion of sending a threatening email to Buckingham Charter Magnet High School staff and students Thursday afternoon.

The 17-year-old male student at the High School at 188-B Bella Vista Road allegedly sent the threat via the School Loop system around 1:15 p.m. at the end of the school day, police Sgt. Todd Dye said.

The system enables students to contact teachers, check assignments and allows parents to check their students’ grades, Dye said.

The student gained access to another student’s School Loop account when that student’s user name and password were automatically saved on a computer shared by multiple students, police said.

“He sent a three-sentence email saying he was tired with everything and was going to take his own life Friday and take a bunch of people with him,” Dye said.

Other students sent screen shots of the message to other students, and police were still trying to determine who sent it after school closed, Dye said.

The teen was identified, arrested at his place of employment for making a criminal threat and released to his parents, Dye said.

“He said it was a hoax with the idea it would be funny,” Dye said.

Police determined there was no evidence of a plan to carry out the threat, Dye said.
