WEATHER ALERT: Rain Headed This Way Today, NWS Says

BAY AREA, CA - Rainfall is expected today in the Bay Area and will likely last through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers are expected sometime by early in the afternoon, with lingering showers continuing into the evening and through Tuesday morning.

Monday will most likely see the bulk of the rainfall, with the Bay Area expected to receive about a quarter-inch of rain, weather service officials said.

Coastal areas in the North Bay will receive the heaviest rainfall, between half an inch and three quarters of an inch of rain. Coastal areas in the Peninsula will likely see less rain.

Showers will then begin tapering off by Tuesday morning, followed by dry weather for the rest of the week, according to the weather service.

In addition to the rainfall, a high surf advisory is in effect Monday for the coastal areas of the North Bay, as well as the Peninsula and Monterey Bay.

The advisory beings at 3 p.m. Monday and will last through 9 p.m. Tuesday, weather service officials said.

Beachgoers are being advised to use caution near the surf zone since large waves can be erratic and unpredictable and are capable of sweeping people into the frigid and turbulent ocean waters, according to the weather service.
