25% Of Eligible Riverside County Residents Fully Vaccinated

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — The number of Riverside County residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19 mirrors state figures: one in four people.

On Monday, figures from Riverside University Health System show that 485,096 residents ages 16 and older have been fully vaccinated. The number represents 24.9 percent of the county's vaccine-eligible population.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that one in four Californians are fully vaccinated. Health officials caution, however, there is a window of risk for COVID-19 infection.

People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after a second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A nationwide pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine continues. RUHS is awaiting further federal guidance before deciding whether to lift the suspension. (Read more here.)

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines continue to be available countywide. The portal to make an appointment for vaccinations at county-run and other sites can be accessed via www.rivcoph.org/COVID-19-Vaccine. Anyone who needs assistance may also call the county's 211 helpline.

Riverside County continues to see improved COVID-19 figures. On Friday, the Riverside University Health System said 90 COVID patients were hospitalized; on Monday, the figure dropped to 85. The latest number includes 15 intensive care unit patients, six fewer than Friday.

RUHS does not provide updated statistics on the weekend.

RUHS figures show a total of 4,528 COVID-19 deaths since March 2020 — an uptick of three since Friday.

The total number of COVID cases recorded since the public health documentation period began is 297,319 — up 104 from Friday. Of the total number, 290,981 people have recovered from the virus, according to RUHS.

Riverside County remains in the orange tier of the state's Blueprint for a Safer Economy framework, although Newsom has announced that the target date for an end to all restrictions on businesses, gatherings and recreation throughout the state is June 15 — provided there are no signs of a backward slide.
