$42 Million Road Construction On I-15 Near Temecula To Begin

TEMECULA, Ca — The initial phase of a $42 million pavement replacement project on Interstate 15 near Temecula is scheduled to get underway Tuesday, requiring the closure of entrance and exit ramps south of the city, according to Caltrans.

The I-15 Pavement Rehabilitation Project will entail replacing the No. 3 and 4 lanes on both sides of the freeway between the San Diego County line and the Temecula River Bridge.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, generally between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., the project contractor Security Paving Inc. will shut down the on- and off- ramps at the Rainbow Scales to begin preparations for the lane replacements. Workers will also be posting signs advising that the construction zone is now active, according to Caltrans.

"This is all part of the preliminary work," District 8 spokeswoman Emily Leinen told City News Service. "It usually takes about two to three weeks, depending on the weather, and after that you'll start to see actual impaction in terms of physical changes and lane closures."

The lanes due to be replaced on the stretch are gradually deteriorating, according to Caltrans.

The project is slated to run until mid-2022.
