91 Freeway Lane Closures Due To Pedestrian Fatal, Victim ID'd
Freeway lanes were closed during the investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A 44-year-old pedestrian who was struck and killed early Thursday morning on westbound state Route 91 in Riverside has been identified by the coroner's bureau.
Herbert Sanders Jr. of Riverside died at the scene after he was hit at 2:05 a.m., just east of 14th Street, according to the coroner.
The California Highway Patrol reported that motorists witnessed Sanders attempting to run from the shoulder of the freeway to the center divider. He made it across most lanes but was hit in the fast lane by a sedan.

The motorist stopped, along with a number of other drivers, who tried to render aid, according to the CHP.
No other injuries were reported.

Riverside Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and pronounced Sanders dead at the scene.
The westbound 91 was partially closed for more than two hours while a preliminary investigation was conducted by the CHP.
