TEMECULA, CA — California Highway Patrol officers from the Temecula Area office will staff not one, but two, DUI/driver's license checkpoints in the region this weekend, officials say. The operations will take place somewhere within the unincorporated areas surrounding Temecula, Murrieta or Lake Elsinore.

The first Southwest Riverside County-area checkpoint is set for Friday night, according to CHP Officer Mike Lassig.

The second area operation is set for Saturday night, he said. Both are slated to run from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

"The CHP would like to remind all motorists to not drink and drive. DUI’s are 100 % avoidable. It’s simple; if you’re going to drink, don’t drive," Lassig said. "Designate a sober driver and get to your destination safely."

Funding for both operations comes from state and federal grants.
