Body Found In Cleveland National Forest Near Ortega Highway

Sheriff's officials say homicide investigators responded to the scene "based on trauma found on the victim."

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The body of a male was found by a hiker in the Cleveland National Forest and sheriff's homicide detectives were conducting a death investigation, authorities said Sunday.

The body was found at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday off of South Main Divide Road about three miles south of State Route 74, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The male was pronounced dead at the scene, his age was not available, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Ben Ramirez said.

"Based on trauma found on the victim, a crime scene was secured, and the Central Homicide Unit responded," Ramirez said.

The road was closed in both directions overnight as investigators worked the scene, but it was reopened at about noon.
