Ex Temecula Valley High Wrestler Guilty Of Injuring Girlfriend

Former Temecula Valley High star wrestler Ryan Andrew Cosio has pled guilty to injuring his ex girlfriend and was sentenced to work release.

TEMECULA, CA -- A former star wrestler for Temecula Valley High has pled guilty to physically injuring his girlfriend earlier this year and was sentenced to work release, according to Superior Court records.

Records show that Ryan Andrew Cosio pleaded guilty Thursday, Dec. 5, to a misdemeanor count of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. Prosecutors have said that that Cosio picked up his now ex-girlfriend and threw her to the ground on June 16.

Cosio, 18, had just completed his senior year at Temecula Valley High when he was arrested in June. Charged with misdemeanor corporal injury and felony false imprisonment, he admitted to the misdemeanor, and the false imprisonment charge was dropped.

As part of the plea and sentencing agreement, he was sentenced to 116 days in the Riverside County sheriff’s work-release program, plus 20 hours of community service. He's also required to pay $500 to the domestic violence fund, and has been ordered to complete a 52-week domestic violence program.

In addition, he's prohibited from having any direct or indirect contact with his ex-girlfriend, according to a report on the case in the Press-Enterprise. Casio was named the newspaper's male wrestler of the year in March.
