Update: Jackson Elementary Locked Down During Search for Suspect

A hit and run involving a sheriff's deputy triggered a manhunt through Temecula neighborhoods.

Authorities are searching for the driver of a pickup truck that clipped a motorcycle officer that attempted to pull him over on Wednesday in Temecula.

The traffic stop near Temecula and Pechanga parkways turned into a manhunt after the driver drove his truck at the deputy just before 1 p.m., according to Deputy Albert Martinez.

The search caused school officials to put Jackson Elementary on a modified lockdown. Nearby Great Oak High School was not locked down.

Martinez described the suspect as a male in his 20s wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

The truck, which was reported stolen, was found abandoned nearby. An intense search including police dogs and a helicopter throughout surrounding neighborhoods was not successful.
