Lane Closures On Interstate 15 Begin Monday, Run Through Friday

Lane closures from the San Diego County line to Temecula begin Monday and are expected to cause delays for motorists,

TEMECULA, CA — Motorists traveling on Interstate 15 this week may need to give themselves some extra time as parts of both northbound and southbound lanes will be closed on Highway 79 beginning Monday, the City of Temecula announced.

Caltrans District 8 will have northbound and southbound lane closures from the San Diego county line to Butterfield Stage Road near Temecula to mill and overlay, upgrade dikes, upgrade curbs to Americans with Disabilities (ADA) standards and upgrade guardrail.

Road work will begin Monday and will run through Friday and will take place from 8 am - 6 pm daily. One lane will remain open at all times. The I-15 Pavement Rehabilitation Project got underway at the beginning of April, entailing the replacement of the No. 3 and 4 lanes on the north-and southbound sides of the freeway, between the San Diego County line and theTemecula River Bridge.

In mid-April, crews began excavating in the project zone, and thisweek, they will continue to remove old metal beam guardrails in the median,over a stretch of the interstate where two lanes will be taken out of serviceon both sides. The work is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. between the Rainbow Valley turnout and Highway 79, wrapping up for the week on Friday morning.

The agency noted that periodic work will also be conducted duringdaylight hours, requiring the fast lane to be shut down between today andFriday. Security Paving Inc. is the contractor responsible for the project andis replacing concrete panels along the corridor that are graduallydeteriorating, according to Caltrans. The project is slated to run until mid-2022.
