A Love Letter From Dave Spence

After overcoming heartbreak, one man found love again after striking up a chat on social media.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we asked Patch readers to write a love letter to that special someone and let us deliver it. This is Dave Spence’s love story about his wife:

“Ten years ago I left an abusive, hateful relationship and would rather not be in a relationship at all rather than not be loved. My former wife had never said 'I love you' to me and I couldn’t stand anymore. I was broken mentally, spiritually and financially. I was convinced that no one would ever want me. My dear late mother said that I had plenty to offer, but I doubted it.

Eight years ago a woman reached out to me through social media and made contact. We wrote at first and then met. It turns out that she lived about two miles away. It also turns out that she and I went to the same high school and had all of the same friends (despite not knowing each other). As it turns out, her brother and I were even good friends back in school!

Seven years today, we got married and it is more than I could possibly dream of. Someone who loves me and is gracious and appreciates me. Needless to say, I’m crazy about her also. We played the song 'The Broken Road' at our wedding. The words in that song were appropriate, and it reminds us that no matter the trials that we face, we can face them together because adversity brought us together and we are stronger together because of it.”
