The senior Denava had a criminal history. Riverside County records show he was released from custody on Jan. 5 following a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury and illegal marijuana sales. In 1995, he was convicted in Michigan of "sexually abusive activity" against his then 5-year-old daughter, according to Macomb County court records.
