Molestation Allegations Lodged Against Temecula Teacher

The elementary school teacher was booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and child molestation.

TEMECULA, CA ? A teacher at Vail Elementary School in Temecula was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of having inappropriate contact with a student.

George Vega, 57, of Temecula was taken into custody shortly after 7 a.m. and booked into Southwest Detention Center on suspicion of felony lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and misdemeanor child molestation, according to jail records.

The arrest location was the residential street of Pine Tree Circle.

Vega is being held in lieu of $55,000 bail and is due in court on Thursday.

An investigation into Vega began around 5:30 p.m. on May 7 after allegations surfaced.

Following an investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, it was determined there was sufficient evidence to arrest Vega.

The Temecula Valley Unified School District placed Vega on administrative leave. Vail Elementary serves grades K-5.

The sheriff's department released no further details.
