THE MIND AND EMOTION ARE COMBINED IN THE ENIGMA OF A PURPLE UNIVERSE, SCARCELY EXPLORED. EXPANDING INTO THE VAST UNKNOWN OF MENTAL HEALTH – LIKE THE BRAIN AND HUMAN EMOTIONAL UNDERSTANDING – WE KNOW LITTLE. POOR MENTAL HEALTH AND ITS EFFECTS ENCOMPASSES US ALL. DEPRESSION IS CREEPING INTO OUR YOUTH, AND SUICIDE RATES ARE RISING. THE POWER OF THE MIND CAN LAUNCH SOMEONE INTO THE CLOUDS OF ACHIEVEMENT – OR INTO THE GUTTER OF DISAPPOINTMENT. NONETHELESS, AS A NATION, WE SELDOM SPEAK OF IT.

Me (Troy Chavez), Jagger Terski, and Hunter Jacobson are embarking on a journey to raise money and awareness on this lowly lit issue. Why? Well, I could say – ‘Why not!’ – but that answer would only satisfy my love for expediency.

Mental health is something, like many of us, have witness firsthand. It is not an issue easily spoken about, but getting help shouldn’t be just as hard.

I am a public administration master’s student at National University (online) seeking to create my own non-profit. However, I am not that naïve (sort of) to believe it will happen in the snap of a finger after graduation, and my diploma will not simply be a golden ticket to everything that is to know about running a non-profit! I need to gain experience.
I always believed my greater purpose was to help in whatever fashion that may be; at 25 years of age, I am still stumped as to what my “greater purpose” is (or OUR greater purpose is, for that matter). Regardless, after finding myself in either sales, a postal annex, or campaign work, I have not lost my drive to help in a greater capacity. “Project Purple,” is that purpose.

“Project Purple” is the creation of spontaneity, good hearted intentions, and the thrill of fulfilling a purpose – long-time coming. My compadre’s, Jagger and Hunter, are on the tail-ends of high school, and let me tell you, at their age, I wasn’t (wish I was) thinking about “Fundraisers” and “event planning.” So, their help, dedication, and creativity, are a godsend.

There are a lot of preachers out there in the age of social media, but there aren’t many “doers.” I myself, got sick of my big mouth, and decided to use my big hands, instead. Not sure if that metaphorically means anything, but I’m just trying to say, ‘I want to DO SOMETHING.’

This fundraiser is the start of a journey for all of us, and I couldn’t be more excited to how this six to eight-month project turns out.

OH, WHAT IS IT? SORRY, OF COURSE!

We are planning a golf fundraiser and an auction of items. Basic? Nah. Not at all. Nothing is basic about raising money for a good cause. This journal is going to be a personal account of our road ahead. From a reader’s, perspective, I can see if it may seem murky; but I assure you, we are more than dedicated to this cause and we couldn’t be more excited to see the project all the way through.
Six to eight-months from now, we will have raised (?) for the following non-profits:

  1. Child Mind https://childmind.org/
  2. NAMI Frontline Wellness https://nami.org/Your-Journey/Frontline-Professionals
  3. National Institute of Mental Health https://www.nimh.nih.gov/index.shtml
  4. Mental Health America https://www.mhanational.org/

Excerpt from Journal #1 (Plus link to article and more information on Project purple):

COOPED UP IN THE BOWELS OF COVID-19, THOSE WITH ADDICTIONS FEEL TRAPPED MENTALLY – AS WELL AS – PHYSICALLY. DRUGS ARE A EUPHORIC ESCAPE FOR THOSE SEEKING TO CEASE FEELING THE WALLS SLOWLY CAVING IN ON THEM. THE OPIOID CRISIS WAS FLOURISHING BEFORE THE PANDEMIC, BUT IT MAY BALLOON DURING THE THRALLS OF BUSINESS CLOSURES AND SHUTDOWNS TAKING PLACE ACROSS THE NATION.

“130 people die every day from an opioid overdose,” (TIME Magazine, The Science of Addition). The opioid epidemic is a problem happening in plain sight, and driven by the pharmaceutical industry...
