UPDATE AT 3:32 P.M.:

ANZA, CA — A brush fire that broke out Tuesday on the eastern edge of the Cahuilla Indian Reservation in Anza charred roughly 20 acres before Cal Fire aircraft and ground crews got it partially contained.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 1:30 p.m. in the area of Cary and Yucca roads, just north of Highway 371, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location, but they were delayed by dirt roads that did not afford easy access to the fire, leaving two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter to contend with the brusher in its early stages, according to reports from the scene.

The air crews made a series of runs on the blaze that slowed its progress and closed off several flanks, giving firefighters time to begin establishing tentative containment lines, using the dirt roads as natural fire breaks.

Several homes were in the vicinity of the fire, but they were not impacted.

By 3 p.m., crews were making steady progress encircling the blaze.

The brusher was in the same area as several wildfires that burned dozens of acres last summer.

The cause of the current fire was under investigation.
