Suspected DUI Driver Leads Police Chase In Temecula

The man crashed his car, but escaped on foot, leaving his female passenger injured in the wreckage, according to a sheriff's sergeant.

TEMECULA, CA — A suspected DUI driver who crashed in Temecula Thursday afternoon during a police chase was still being sought.

The incident began around 12:38 p.m. at Mountain View and Ynez Road, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Lionel Murphy.

Deputies out of the Southwest Sheriff's Station tried to make a traffic stop on the suspected DUI driver but he failed to pull over and a pursuit started, according to Murphy. The man crashed his white compact car near Santiago and Ynez, escaped the wreckage, then fled on foot.

A woman who was a passenger in the crashed car was extricated by first responders and transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Murphy said.

No other injuries were reported.

As of 2 p.m., a search for the man was continuing. A sheriff's helicopter was involved in the efforts.
