TEMECULA, CA — As more businesses, schools and other venues reopen, some Riverside County COVID-19 vaccination sites will be relocated — and the Temecula OptumServe clinic at LA Fitness on Winchester Road is among them.

Other vaccination clinics slated to move are the Curative site at the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium, the Alessandro High School location in Hemet, and the Norco LA Fitness location on Hamner Avenue.

Information about when and where the clinics go is expected to be announced in the coming days and weeks, Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Geoffrey Leung told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

Mobile vaccination clinics will be playing a central role in future vaccination outreach. According to Leung, 345 such clinics have already been offered in the last few months.

"We are trying to leverage high-traffic areas," he said. "We're always trying to improve things."

Leung told the board that more sites are offering evening and weekend appointments to accommodate people's schedules.

Countywide, 1,424,772 vaccine doses have been administered, according to Riverside University Health System. Fifty-five percent of county residents 65 and older and 24.9 percent of people 16 and older have been fully vaccinated, Riverside County Public Health Director Kim Saruwatari told the board on Tuesday.

An update on the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected Friday, according to Leung. On April 13, federal officials recommended halting use of the vaccine after reports of a rare blood clot disorder in a small number of people.
