Temecula's Santa Gertrudis Creek Trail Project In Full Swing

Cyclists, runners and pedestrians alike will see more access and a longer trail once the project is completed this fall.

TEMECULA, CA — Last week, the City of Temecula announced the Santa Gertrudis Creek Trail temporarily closed due to construction work on an extension project that will provide greater paved access to the path for pedestrians and cyclists.

The multi-million-dollar Santa Gertrudis Creek Pedestrian/Bicycle Trail Extension and Interconnect project broke ground earlier this year and is expected to be completed in October.

When finished, the Santa Gertrudis Creek Trail will extend westward from Ynez Road to the intersection of Winchester Road and Diaz Road where the Murrieta Creek Multi-Purpose Trail currently ends. The new trail will link the two current trail endpoints, providing a longer path for those who enjoy walking, running and/or bike riding without motor vehicles buzzing right next to them.

The project also includes the creation of undercrossings at Ynez Road, Interstate 15, Jefferson Avenue, and Margarita Road. The end result is a continuous paved trail along the Santa Gertrudis Creek to interconnect with the Murrieta Creek Multi-Purpose Trail.

The current trail closure is expected to last for approximately six weeks, the city announced.
