Traffic Delays Expected Friday Night On Southbound I-15: Temecula

TEMECULA, CA — Southbound Interstate 15 just south of Temecula will be reconfigured Friday night, shifting traffic to make room for a resurfacing project, and motorists should be prepared for delays, officials said Tuesday.

The "crossover" is scheduled after 10 p.m. Friday between Temecula Parkway and the Rainbow turnout, according to Caltrans. The move is part of the $30 million I-15 Pavement Rehabilitation Project.

Caltrans officials said the crossover will involve shifting all southbound traffic to the left, effectively creating a temporary lane in the freeway's center median.

There was no word on how many weeks the reconfiguration would remain in place.

Northbound lanes will not be impacted, officials said.

The rehabilitation project got underway at the beginning of April, entailing the replacement of the No. 3 and 4 lanes on the north- and southbound sides of the freeway, between the San Diego County line and the Temecula River Bridge.

In mid-April, crews began excavating in the project zone.

Security Paving Inc. is the contractor responsible for the project and is replacing concrete panels along the corridor that are gradually deteriorating, according to Caltrans.

The project is slated to run until mid-2022.
