Lake Forest Welcomes NEW OCAnimal Shelter IN Tustin Near Redhill

New Orange County Animal Shelter Opens replacing A 70 year old facility. This looks like the go to place for Adoptions, Lost Pets, Volunteer

The following is a copy of article posted by Frank Wagoner

This week the OC animal shelter has opened its New, State of the Art facility. It is designed to handle the large amounts of future pets, the odd varieties of Animals , from Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Snakes, Mice, Reptiles, Turtles, Snakes, Chickens, Roosters, ... to most small animals expected to be on the Infamous Noah's Ark. There was also a small chichiwawa dog so hyper I thought he might vibrate through the wall.

On Saturday, March 24th 2018 (today possibly) is the main GRAND OPENING Open House from 11am to 3pm. Pet Adoptions begin March 25th. The grand opening will have Food Trucks, Face painting, Shelter Tours, therapy animals, Animal Interactive Programing. I am not sure what "Animal Interactive Programing" is as I forgot to ask, but I do not think it has to do with robots piloted by dogs. But then again, UCI is nearby and anything is possible.

When we visited the facility, We went to every cage and looked at each animal. All Animals appeared in good health with the exception of some with statements they were under the vets care. The dog sections had some dogs that were barking as expected from the conditions of being in jail for a crime they did not commit. :P .

There were so many pets to interact with, many were so friendly even though scared. many seemed to say Adopt me, I will love you unconditionally with their actions.

As for adopting pets, the website ocpetinfo.com makes it easy, they list the available pets on the site. There are more animals at the facility than on the site since there is a legally required waiting period before any animal can be released. Also, if an animal comes in needing some medical attention, or spaying / neutering that would result in additional time before being adoptable.

What if you like animals but cannot have one where you live? Or you can only have one for a short time . You may be interested in the Volunteer program or the Foster home . In addition to education on proper care of animals, it can be a rewarding experience. Volunteer Positions available - Dog Walker, Cat Socializer ( come in and play with the cats) , Rabbit Socializer, Bather / Groomer, Customer Service. Foster Caretaker - Provides care to young, injured abused or under socialized animals. Note , Foster Volunteers are responsible for non-medical incurred expenses. One cool experience is interacting with many breeds of animals.

You cannot just take a small retail space and make it into a pet storage facility and expect it to function for very long. The facility was designed to handle what happens normal with living creatures-- Cleaning up. The facility was very clean. The facility has most enclosures made of stainless steel and tempered glass with many floor drains. This allows for an easy daily clean up of every cell should it be needed. Most enclosures for the dogs have access to outside to allow for easier exercise runs.

The cats section has a number of play / exercise areas for the cats. The mice get a wheel. They are looking for volunteer pet socializers to come in and play with the cats. Sounds like a fun job.
