WALNUT CREEK, CA — The Walnut Creek library's cafe could have a new operator soon, if the City Council approves transferring the lease from the original 2012 operator.

The council will vote Tuesday night whether to allow that transfer. City staff recommends the council approve the transfer of the existing lease to Abdul Maroof, a one-time owner and operator of a Togo's sandwich franchise.

Cafe Pica Deli has been the Library Cafe's only operator since its opening in 2012. It occupies 1,137 square feet of space of the ground floor of the library building at 1644 N. Broadway downtown, which itself opened in 2010.

City staff says Maroof has proposed expanding the cafe's menu, and perhaps starting a catering business based there.

Tuesday's City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St., Walnut Creek.
