A 70-foot tall building that will include 141 apartments and 18,000 square feet of ground floor shops at 1550 N. California Blvd. will likely be approved by the Walnut Creek City Council tonight (Tuesday, June 4).Â
The project has been praised as a "game changer"Â by members of the council, who believe that attracting more people to live in the downtown area will be a boon to downtown businesses.Â
The project has faced criticism in the past over concerns about parking and the building height, which is 20 feet higher in places than the the city's 50-foot height limit restriction. But no one spoke against the project when the council first considered it on May 21.
The council will consider making an exception for the height limit tonight, which, if approved, would green-light the project.Â
The council meets at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.Â
