Fatal Hwy Collision In Walnut Creek: DUI Suspected
A 38-year-old man died at the scene of a possible DUI collision involving a dump truck early Friday on I-680 in Walnut Creek, the CHP says.
WALNUT CREEK, CA -- A 38-year-old Hayward man died at the scene of a possible DUI collision involving a dump truck early Friday morning on Interstate Highway 680 in Walnut Creek, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just north of Treat Boulevard around 2 a.m. Arriving officers found that the driver had veered left across lanes of traffic, causing his Nissan Sentra to collide with the dump truck, roll and subsequently hit the center divider.
The driver was partially trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters extricated him and pronounced him dead at the scene. The man's identity could not be officially confirmed Monday morning, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

The dump truck driver was not injured, officers said. He remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.
Investigators found alcohol bottles in the decedent's vehicle, but it's not yet clear whether impairment may have been a factor in the crash.
