Firefighters Extinguish 2 Walnut Creek Fires Thursday
There were no injuries in a 2-alarm house fire or a separate grass fire that burned uncomfortably close to homes.
WALNUT CREEK, CA — A two-alarm house fire in Walnut Creek Thursday afternoon in the 1800 block of Weaver Lane was quickly extinguished by Contra Costa County firefighters.
No injuries were reported.
The abandoned home was a total loss, according to Con Fire spokesman Steve Hill. "The house had been abandoned for 9 years, was boarded up, but had lots of evidence of transients both inside and around the structure. The fire actually started on the side of the building on the outside."

Hill emphasized the need to clear weeds and brush from property. "It's important that property owners do their part now, if not already done, to abate their weeds and create defensible space to give us a chance of saving their property in the event of wildfire. It's also important they prevent fires in the first place, by being extra cautious in all outdoor activities, and when they do occur that they report them immediately to 911."
The first call on the fire was received at 3:39 p.m.
