The latest author interview in the Get Lit series is author Fred Setterberg, who wrote a true life novel called Lunch Bucket Paradise. The Oakland author describes his work as a piece of fiction based on his actual life in San Leandro from the early 1950s to the end of the 1960s.Â
Setterberg said that, while the book is based on real life, there are many inventions in the work. But he says that his is a book that examines the class structure of America right after WWII, when there were working class families moving to the suburbs.Â
San Leandro at the time, he said, was surrounded by farms, and if one had to purchase furniture or other major items, it involved a trip to Oakland, or even San Francisco, which he said was like "the Emerald City for us kids at the time."Â
Watch this interview with Setterberg and series host Peter Crooks, filmed last week at the Walnut Creek Library. Â
